Requirements & Constraints of the Brief

We have been asked to create a video for the NHS to be able to show to their staff as a 'learning and educational' kind of video. It will be a 5 minute video containing knowledge and information to the staff of NHS Wales about their work place, and also for them to learn about the different people and different departments within their work place. This will help them gain a better understanding and knowledge so that they can work in a better environment and also understand others within their work place a lot better.
The videos can contain information of basic health and safety around the hospital to protect them selves, patients and others around them, basic cpr, fire safety and the signs and signals, manual handling, and introductory videos of people introducing themselves and explaining their job role and what it consists of on a day to day basis. These videos can then be used on any nhs staff website or mobile or tablet app so it's easy for them to access at anytime.
There are a few things that need to be considered when it comes to planning and filming the videos. We need to think of alternatives/backups in case we can't film where we want to, get the equipment and props we want or the staff that we want to be able to set the scene of these videos so that the staff can get a better understanding of what is being explained in the videos. We also need to think about if we are filming in a hospital location what's going on around us to prevent any accidents and injuries and also to make sure that we aren't in the way of anything or anyone.

Evaluation

Although we had some problems and difficulties at the start of the project I believe it went well. I was able to complete all of the work to what I believe is the best I can do. To start with the project was to create a 5 minute video for NHS Wales, but due to some communication problems with them the brief had to be changed as we wasn’t receiving enough information quick enough and we wouldn’t have been able to complete our work by the deadline they had set. The brief got changed to creating a promotional video for the college. We had to create a video no longer than 5 minutes promoting the creative industries within the college. A big advantage of this is that we already have a lot of footage from different events and we only had to film minimal things such as someone using a camera, someone editing footage and general college life and also some of the art work produced by college that is around the college.
When it came to editing I faced a couple of difficulties. The main difficulty was that the footage was only on one computer so I had to take the footage from this computer. Due to the file size being large this was time consuming and put me behind slightly. Another problem I faced was that I had missed a few days of college due to being ill so this had brought me behind slightly; luckily I managed to catch up and complete all of the work on time.
I believe that my edit fits the brief in terms of creating a video that promotes the college. I created a 1.5 minute video that has footage from past college events the 2014 Oxfam fashion show which includes footage of hair and makeup as well as the fashion show itself. I was also able to find footage of a rehearsal for the drama department for one of their performances. I think that I have created a strong edit that fits the brief well. It contains footage from the creative industries deparment within the college. I created a fast paced edit to be able to hold peoples attention aswell as drawing in peoples attention.
When I had finished editing the video I exported it as a quick time movie. Once exported I watched it over to make sure there was no junos and that everything was ok without. I figured that I had problems because the exported video was jumpy, pausing and had grey screens come up every couple of seconds. I was really unsure about what was going on so had to ask for help. It took a while to figure out what was going on. It turned out to be the my sequence settings where wrong and that I hadn't changed it to apple pro res 422 HQ. After changing the sequence settings tho this i then exported the video again and found that there was no troubles with the video. From this I have learnt that I should check my sequence settings before exporting any of my videos. This will ensure me of not getting the same problem again.

Project change

Due to having communication problems with the lady that we where making the video for the brief has been changed. We are now creating a promotional video for the college promoting the creative industries area.
I will be using the footage from events that we have previously filmed such as the 2014 Oxfam fashion show, and the drama department practising for one of their performances. I will also be filming a few extra shots if things such as someone editing a video and using a camera.
The video can be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes as long as its promoting the college.

Proposal

I have been given the task to create a video for NHS Wales for them to show to their. It has to be a video that can help them learn things about the job and maybe the jobs of other staff that they work with and around.
I have come up with the idea to create a basic introductory/help and advice video of health and safety, fire safety and manual handling. It will be a 5 minute video containing the 3 different areas. The health and safety video will consist of  basic health and safety around the hospital for both the staff and the patients. The video wont be shown to the patients but it will give the staff help on how they can prevent anything bad happening to the customer with the help of this health and safety video. The fire saftey video will tell them what to do in the event of a fire. They need to think about things such as the oxygen pipes and any other flamable things around the hospital. It wont be able to contain information on where the nearest fire exits are and the fire assembley point as they will be different in each hospital. It will tell them what to look for in the event of a fire. It will show them the signs of which they will need to look for to be able to find their nearest fire exit and assebley point and hwo they can help patients. It will also tell them how they should exit the building to prevent any accidents to themsleves and others around them. For both the fire saftey and the health and saftey it will tell the staff how they can help the patients aswell as themselves and other members of staff aroudn them.  The manual handling video will show them how to lift things such as patients and any heavy equipment or boxes that they may need to lift and/or move.It will shwo them in both the correct and incorrect manor. It will shwo the incorrect as it can tell them why its incorrect and what the side effects of that may be. It will then go on to show the correct way of handling/lifting a patient so that they can do it properly to prevent them hurting the patients and others around them aswell as themselves.
I plan to film all this in a hospital enviroment just to give the staff a better idead, understanding and feel of wht the video is trying to explain to them. It will be filmed in the approriate areas of the hospital. For example, manual handling. This can be filmed in a general ward. It will show them how they should and shouldnt lift a patient out of a bed and/or chair. Fire saftey will be filmed in the corridoors to show them the signs of what they should be looking out for. The health and safety video can be filmed anywhere wthin the hospital, maybe even a couple of different locations as each ward will have ever so slightly different health and saftey procedures, although amyn of the health and saftey points will be the same across many different wards and areas.

Meeting Minutes

Wednesday 12th November

We had 2 hours of talking and discussing what we think our idea could be and did a mind map of the ideas we came up with.

Friday 14th November

David not in, ill.
We looked back over the mind map and came up with our final idea of what to do.
